world mission
There is a rich variety of ways in which Parishes of all sizes can play their part as members of the Worldwide Church, and so be enriched and challenged in their own faith and ministry.

World Mission Contacts
The World Mission Group in St David’s Diocese has invited each Parish (or Benefice) to nominate one person from their congregation to be the World Mission Contact. In consultation with the Vicar/Priest in Charge, it is the Contact’s job to foster and promote links between the parish and some aspect of the worldwide church. This could involve:
- Prayerfully devising and planning a World Mission strategy with the PCC
- Making and maintaining contact with the Mission Agency selected
- Being on the mailing list/registering email interest in news and regular publications from them
- Feeding back information for use in Parish magazines, Intercessions, etc
- Using display material to give information to the congregations
- Organising events to educate, inform and raise money for Mission Agency/Projects
- Suggesting use of resources made available by the Mission Agency (see below)
- Corresponding with Link Mission Partners/Project leaders and passing on news
WM Contact Gatherings
From time to time we invite the World Mission Contacts to an evening within each Archdeaconry. These have been valuable occasions during which to exchange ideas, get more information about what is on offer, and discover how parishes can benefit from having links with the world church.
Some examples of the resources made available by most of the Mission Agencies:
- Material to be used in Study Groups (e.g. Lent courses)
- Opportunities for people to have a short term experience overseas (from 2 weeks to 6 months)
- Information about becoming a long term mission partner
- Resources to be used in children’s work, schools and youth groups
- Practical ideas for fund raising (eg recycling ink cartridges, collecting stamps etc)
- Ideas for social events that would appeal beyond the Church (USPG’s Big Curry Party)
- Ideas from around the world for special services (Harvest, Advent etc)
- Liturgical ideas to give any service a ‘worldchurch’ theme.
- Ideas about supporting projects/personnel overseas to accommodate differing budgets
- Books, personal Bible study material, CDs, DVDs etc
- Opportunities to take part in Challenges (walking, cycling, climbing) to raise money (eg with CMS a trip to climb Mt Kenya, with The Leprosy Mission to climb Pen y Fan
